Afternoon surge pushes up VN-Index

All main indexes rise on July 12, with strong afternoon performance by VN-Index.

All main indexes closed in positive territory on July 12. On HSX the VN-Index increased 6.64 points (1.02 per cent) and the VN30-Index 5.56 points (0.87 per cent) while on HNX the HNX-Index rose 0.36 points (0.42 per cent) and the HNX30-Index 1.51 points (0.97 per cent).

The UpCoM Index also increased, by 0.16 per cent (0.28 per cent).

HSX saw 117 shares increasing and 100 decreasing while HNX saw 157 increasing and 128 decreasing.

Liquidity on HNX reached VND821 billion ($36.82 million), 18 per cent lower than yesterday, and on HSX was VND2.6 trillion ($116.61 million), 8 per cent lower.

In the morning session the VN-Index fluctuated around 652 points before falling to 650.04 points at the close. In the afternoon it increased sharply, to 658.12 points two-thirds of the way through the session, and fluctuated around this mark before closing at 658.90 points, its highest point of the day. The afternoon increase was 1.36 per cent against the morning close.

Among banking shares, VCB was up 3.9 per cent and CTG 1.72 per cent. BID and STB closed at their opening price while EIB and MBB fell 2.7 per cent and 1.3 per cent, respectively. No banking shares on HNX increased, with ACB closing at its opening price and NVB and SHB falling 5.77 per cent and 1.61 per cent, respectively.

Among oil and gas shares on HSX only GAS was up, by 0.8 per cent, while PGD closed at its opening price and CNG was down 1.27 per cent and ASP hits its floor after falling 4.76 per cent.

Of the other large caps on HSX, BVH increased 2.5 per cent, MWG 2.3 per cent, VIC 2 per cent and HPG 1.5 per cent.   

Of the other large caps on HNX, VCG was up 5.4 per cent, VCS 1.4 per cent and NTP 0.8 per cent, while DBC, VNR and CHP were down 2.7 per cent, 2 per cent and 0.5 per cent, respectively.

Foreign investors net bought on HSX by VND71 billion ($3.18 million) and net sold on HNX by VND566 million ($25,385).
