UPCoM alone in falling

Other main indexes finish in positive territory on December 25.

The UPCoM-Index was the only main index on Vietnam’s stock market to close lower on December 25.

On HSX, the VN-Index finished at 958.31 points, up 5.99 points (0.63 per cent) and the VN30-Index 949.28 points, up 3.4 points (0.36 per cent).

On HNX, the HNX-Index ended at 113.23 points, up 0.20 points (0.18 per cent) and the HNX30-Index 216.26 points, up 0.14 points (0.06 per cent). The UPCoM-Index closed at 54.29 points, down 0.41 points (0.74 per cent).

Liquidity on HSX reached VND2.9 trillion ($127.8 million) and on HNX was VND588 billion ($25.9 million).

There were 112 shares increasing on HSX and 169 decreasing while 95 rose and 84 fell on HNX. 

The VN-Index opened at 952.32 points and increased slightly before losing some ground. It then finished the day at 958.31 points.

The first trading session of the week was positive, with SAB up VND6,000 ($0.26), while other blue chips such as VIC, VJC, FPT, BVH, and VCB, and oil stocks such as GAS, PVD, and PVS also did well.

Investor sentiment, however, is generally quite cautious, as reflected in the relatively low trading volume.

Most banking stocks closed down. VCB rose 1.2 per cent while STB lost 1.6 per cent, VPB and EIB 1.2 per cent, MB 1 per cent, and CTG 0.4 per cent.

In food and beverages, VNM lost 1.4 per cent and KDC and VCF 0.4 per cent.

In technology, CMG rose 6.9 per cent, DGW 3 per cent, and FPT 0.9 per cent, while MWG lost 0.8 per cent.

In real estate and construction, VIC gained 3.2 per cent, CTD 2.2 per cent, ROS 0.9 per cent, and NVL 0.2 per cent. HBC and VRE both lost 1.7 per cent.

Among large caps, SAB gained 5.4 per cent, PLX 4.2 per cent, VJC 1.3 per cent, and ROS and FPT 0.9 per cent.

The Top 5 rising shares on HSX were COM, VTO, FDC, CMG, and HRC, and BII, TV3, VMS, VSM, and TMX on HNX. 

The Top 5 falling shares on HSX were LGC, PIT, BTT, SVT, and HTT, and BBS, PEN, DST, SGC, and DC2 on HNX.

Foreign investors net sold on HNX by VND250 million ($11,023).
