358 record profits totaling over $5 billion.
Companies listed on the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) have posted their results for 2014.
Of the 358 listed companies, 321 earned a total of approximately VND13.04 trillion ($5.29 billion) in profits, an increase of 20 per cent compared to 2013, while the remaining 37 posted losses totaling VND686.7 billion ($32.11 million).
All but two met the deadline for posting their results, accounting for 99.4 per cent or an increase of 9 per cent over last year.
Positive changes were seen compared to 2013. There were 308 companies recording total profits of VND5.02 trillion ($243.46 million), 23.7 per cent higher than in the previous year. Fifty-one recorded losses of VND330 billion ($15.45 million) in total, a decline of 77.5 per cent.
HNX listed companies – profit by sector
Mining and oil and gas were the best performers in 2014, with 22 businesses recording VND1.44 trillion ($67.42 million) in total profits. Ninety-eight manufacturing enterprises recorded VND1.4 trillion ($65.54 million) in total, and the financial sector, which includes 24 enterprises, recorded profits of VND851 billion ($39.84 million).
The construction industry had 62 companies earning profits, totaling VND716.5 billion ($33.54 million), but the sector also saw the largest losses, with ten enterprises losing VND93 billion ($4.35 million) in total.
