Three of four main indexes lose ground on August 12.
The HNX30 Index was the only main index to close higher on August 12, by 0.52 points (0.34 per cent). HNX’s other index, the HNX-Index, was down 0.12 points (0.14 per cent) while on HSX the VN-Index fell 4.53 points (0.69 per cent) and the VN30-Index 3.99 points (0.62 per cent).
The UpCoM Index increased by 0.005 points (0.08 per cent).
HSX saw 82 shares increasing and 145 decreasing while HNX saw 98 increasing and 135 decreasing.
Liquidity on HNX was VND750 billion ($33.63 million), 33 per cent higher than yesterday, and on HSX was VND2.4 trillion ($107.64 million), roughly the same as yesterday.
The VN-Index opened at 660.24 points then quickly reached a peak of 668.15 points but soon fell to 660.92 points and then finished the morning session at 661.60 points. In a tough afternoon it had fallen to 653.09 points late in the session before recovering slightly to close at 655.71 points.
GAS was the only large cap to increase, by 1.6 per cent, while VIC closed at its opening price and VNM fell 0.6 per cent.
No banking shares finished higher, with STB and EIB closing at their opening price and VCB falling 2.7 per cent, BID 1.2 per cent, MBB 0.7 per cent and CTG 0.6 per cent.
Among oil and gas shares, GAS was up 1.6 per cent and CNG 1.8 per cent while PGD and ASP closed at their opening price.
On HNX, ACB and SHB closed at their opening price. PHP and NTP were down 0.5 per cent and 0.1 per cent, respectively, while PVS was up 3.5 per cent, PVI 3.2 per cent and VCG 0.7 per cent.
Foreign investors net sold on HSX by VND72 billion ($3.22 million) and net bought on HNX by VND16 billion ($717,600).
