Mixed results on two markets on August 18.
Main indexes on HSX closed higher on August 18 while those on HNX fell.
On HSX the VN-Index increased 0.14 points (0.02 per cent) and the VN30-Index 2.05 points (0.31 per cent), while on HNX the HNX-Index was down 0.05 points (0.06 per cent) and the HNX30-Index 0.02 points (0.01 per cent).
The UpCoM Index increased by 0.52 points (0.94 per cent).
HSX saw 81 shares increasing and 130 decreasing while HNX saw 124 increasing and 150 decreasing.
Liquidity on HNX was VND438 billion ($19.64 million), 12 per cent lower than yesterday, and on HSX was VND2.64 trillion ($116.61 million), 2 per cent higher.
The VN-Index opened at 660.51 points and quickly reached its peak for the day of 665.49 points then fell to 659.44 in the middle of the morning session. It then rose again, reaching 662.18 points before heading downwards and closing at 658.73 points. In the afternoon it hit its lowest point of the day, at 656.70 points, before rising to 662.39 points mid-session then easing to close at 660.65 points.
VNM continued to rise today, by 1.8 per cent, on the back of the highest trading volume on HSX, of VND364.07 billion ($16.45 million).
Most large caps struggled, with GAS falling 2.4 per cent, MWG 1.9 per cent, BID 1.2 per cent and BVH 0.8 per cent, while VCB, VIC and CTG closed at their opening price.
MSN gained the most among large caps, increasing 6.7 per cent.
On HNX, PVS, VSC and VNR increased strongly, by 6.2 per cent, 4.2 per cent and 1.4 per cent, respectively, while SHB closed down 3.6 per cent, NTP 1.5 per cent, VCG and ACB 0.6 per cent, and PHP 0.5 per cent.
Foreign investors net sold strongly on HSX, by VND250 billion ($11.21 million), in particular BMP, DMC and NNC, while net buying on HNX by VND1.3 billion ($58,305).

Foreign investors sold for the fourth straight day. Investors only looked at stocks with healthy business and investment according to information that may potentially create market risks if not executed.”
