A good morning performance on December 30 was followed by a sharp decline in the afternoon before ground was regained.
After staying in positive territory in the morning session on December 30 the VN-Index fell to 575.84 points in the afternoon before quickly recovering to close at 579.445 points, an increase of 3.16 points (0.55 per cent) for the day. Total order matching value was VND1.34 trillion ($59.64 million). The market saw 134 shares increase and 73 decrease.
The VN30-Index was similar, trading positively in the morning before falling to 588.22 points in the afternoon and then recovering in the last few minutes to finish at 594.80 points, 5.37 points (0.91 per cent) higher. Sixteen shares increased and two decreased.
Blue chips in the VN30 Index fell in the afternoon against the morning, but other shares in the basket saw dramatic increases, especially VIC and EIB.
EIB saw normal trading throughout the afternoon but buying orders for 500,000 shares arrived near the end of the session. It hit its ceiling of a 6.42 per cent increase in the blink of an eye and closed with 480,039 shares having changed hands.
VIC also saw active trading, increasing VND1,400 ($0.06), or 1.1 per cent, against the morning session, with 1.23 million shares changing hands. Foreign investors net sold strongly, at 706,650 shares worth VND31.5 billion ($1.40 million); the highest by foreign investors today.
Banking shares also had a positive day, with STB increasing 5 per cent, VCB 0.68 per cent, CTG 0.54 per cent, and BID 0.48 per cent.
Foreign investors net bought today, by only VND47.76 billion ($2.12 million), with the highest net buy being VCB, with VND22.42 billion ($997,914).
The VN-Index has now increased for five days in a row, for a total of 15.2 points.
The HSX today published a Announcement After Exchange Trading of E1VFVN30 for the last trading period this year, with the total value of the basket of component securities being VND929.14 million ($41,356) and the value of the creation unit VND931.68 million ($41,469), for a cash component of VND2.54 million ($113.06).
The period saw the Net Asset Value of the ETF being VND351.24 billion ($15.63 million), VND2.9 billion ($129,079) higher than in the last period.
