Significant losses on morning of January 14 not recovered in afternoon trade.
The HSX saw significant losses in the morning session on January 14, bottoming out at 550.85 points before closing at 552.64, down from 558.13 at the opening. During afternoon trade the Index recovered just two points, to close at 553.03 points, for a loss over the course of the day of 7.34 points (1.31 per cent).
Fifty shares increased and 156 decreased.
The situation was even worse in the VN30 basket, with the VN30-Index falling 11.69 points in the morning. The afternoon saw something of a recovery, but the Index finished down 9.46 points (1.63 per cent) for the day. Only one share increased, while 24 decreased.
Falls were in all sectors and most large caps, with BID down 2.6 per cent, GAS 1.7 per cent, MSN 1.3 per cent, and VCB 1.2 per cent. VNM and CTG closed at their opening price while VIC increased just 0.4 per cent.
VIC saw order matching in the afternoon of some 1.77 million shares valued at VND84.8 billion ($3.78 million). FLC saw the highest number of order matching in the session, with some 22.34 million shares valued at VND157.2 billion ($7 million), but still hit its floor, falling 6.67 per cent.
Liquidity in the afternoon was high, with VND971.6 billion ($43.31 million) worth of shares changing hands, of which FLC, VIC, and HAG accounted for 27.4 per cent.
Foreign investors net sold by VND123 billion ($5.48 million) during the day, primarily MSN, by VND98 billion ($4.36 million) and VIC VND70 billion ($3.12 million). EIB saw the strongest net buying among foreign investors, by VND148 billion ($6.59 million).
The HNX-Index closed down 0.95 points (1.24 per cent), with 90 shares increasing and 167 decreasing.
