Banking shares carry VN-Index onwards and upwards on May 5
While indexes on HSX increased on May 5 those on HNX ended in negative territory. On HSX the VN-Index finished 2.44 points (0.41 per cent) higher and the VN30-Index 2.12 points (0.35 per cent), while on HNX the HNX-Index fell 0.29 points (0.36 per cent) and the HNX30-Index 0.16 points (0.11 per cent).
HSX saw 107 shares increasing and 112 decreasing and HNX saw 99 increasing and 114 decreasing.
The VN-Index finally exceeded the 600-point mark after coming close in recent sessions. Three times during the day it hovered around 605 points before final order matching saw it close at 601.51 points.
Liquidity on HSX was relatively strong, with VND2.3 trillion ($103.2 million) changing hands via order matching.
Banking shares drove the index upwards, with BID, VCB and CTG, the three largest banking shares, increasing 2.3 per cent, 2.2 per cent and 1.8 per cent, respectively. EIB and STB, meanwhile, rose 2.9 per cent and 1 per cent, respectively, while MBB closed at its opening price.
Large caps VNM, HPG and MSN remained unchanged.
BVH fell the most among large caps, by 3.3 per cent, while GAS was down 1 per cent and FPT 0.2 per cent.
Among large banking caps on HNX, ACB was down 0.6 per cent while SHB closed at its opening price. Large caps NTP, PVS and VCS increased 2.5 per cent, 1.2 per cent and 0.5 per cent, respectively.
Foreign investors today net bought on HSX by VND30 billion ($1.34 million) while net selling on HNX by some VND3 billion ($134,610).
