The VN-Index broke the 660-point mark on July 7 and the market's largest cap, VNM, closed at its highest price ever.
All main indexes finished in positive territory. On HSX the VN-Index increased 11.66 points (1.8 per cent) and the VN30-Index 8.34 points (1.31 per cent) while on HNX the HNX-Index closed 1.46 points (1.69 per cent) higher and the HNX30-Index 3.64 points (2.31 per cent).
The UpCoM Index rose 0.35 points (0.61 per cent).
HSX saw 160 shares increasing and 78 decreasing while HNX saw 179 increasing and 118 decreasing.
Liquidity was up significantly, with HSX seeing VND2.7 trillion ($121.06 million) change hands, 16 per cent higher than yesterday. HNX’s liquidity totaled VND1 trillion ($44.84 million), 26 per cent higher.
The VN-Index started out positively, hovering around 653 points for most of the morning session before closing at 654.50 points. In the afternoon it rose early to 658.91 points before a late surge saw it close at 661.12 points.
VNM carried the market, as the largest cap increased 2.8 per cent and had the highest trading volume on HSX of some VND197 billion ($8.83 million) via order matching. It ended the day at VND147,000 ($6.59); its highest point in the ten years since it listed.
The high demand for VNM came mostly from the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC). According to HSX it registered to buy 185,000 shares in VNM and bought 66,150.
Among banking shares on HSX, VCB and CTG increased 2 per cent and 0.58 per cent respectively. BID, MBB and EIB closed at their opening price while STB was down 0.88 per cent. On HNX the three largest banking caps all increased: NVB by 3.77 per cent, SHB 1.59 per cent and ACB 1.08 per cent.
In oil and gas, GAS and CNG increased 3.88 per cent and 1.23 per cent, respectively, while PGD and ASP closed at their opening price. HNX saw PVG and PGS increase 2.56 per cent and 0.6 per cent, respectively, while PCG closed at its opening price.
Other large caps on HSX to increase included HPG, by 4.4 per cent, FPT 2.4 per cent and VIC 1 per cent.
Foreign investors net bought on HSX by VND50 billion ($2.24 million) and net sold on HNX by VND9 billion ($403,560).
