Index up only slightly as others down on May 18.
The VN30-Index was the only index to finish in positive territory on May 18.
The VN-Index fell 2.30 points (0.37 per cent) on HSX while the VN-Index increased 0.99 points (0.16 per cent) and on HNX the HNX-Index closed down 0.02 points (0.03 per cent) and the HNX30-Index 0.22 points (0.14 per cent).
The UpCoM Index lost 0.28 points (0.49 per cent).
HSX saw 100 shares increasing and 122 decreasing, while HNX saw 141 increasing and 158 decreasing.
The VN-Index started the day by rising slightly, to 627.06 points, before easing to 622.41 points in the middle of morning session. By mid-afternoon it was trading around 625 points before heading downwards and closing at 622.45 points.
Most large caps fell, including VIC, by 1.8 per cent, GAS 1.7 per cent, HPG 1.5 per cent, VNM 1.4 per cent.
Some banking shares rose, including EIB, by 6.2 per cent, MBB 2 per cent and VCB 1.4 per cent, while STB was down 0.8 per cent and CTG 0.6 per cent and BID closed at its opening price.
Other large caps to increase included PVD, by 3.1 per cent, DPM 0.7 per cent and FPT 0.2 per cent.
On HNX VCG finished up 2.9 per cent, ACB 1.6 per cent, PHP 1 per cent and PLC 0.6 per cent, with PVS down 2.6 per cent, PVI 1.6 per cent, NTP 1.3 per cent and VCS 0.5 per cent.
Foreign investors continued their recent net buying trend, by VND148 billion ($6.63 million) on HSX and VND11 billion ($493,240) on HNX.
