Air Seoul opens Seoul - Da Nang route

First flight on new route to take off from South Korean capital this evening, May 18.

A new route connecting the South Korean capital of Seoul and the central coastal city of Da Nang will be launched by South Korean budget carrier Air Seoul from today, May 18.

The first flight by Air Seoul, the budget unit of Asiana Airlines, to Da Nang will take off at 10.20pm on May 18, using 195-seat A321-200 aircraft, and arrive in Da Nang at 1:20am. The return flight departs at 2:20am on May 19 and arrives in Seoul at 9.15am (all local times).

Flights will be conducted daily on the same schedule, according to the carrier.

There are around 160,000 Vietnamese people living in South Korea while about 150,000 South Koreans are in Vietnam.

Air Seoul currently operates six A321 charter aircraft, with two configured for 220 passengers and four for 195. The low-cost carrier offers services on routes to 16 destinations in five countries: Japan, Cambodia, Malaysia, China and the US. It plans to add a seventh A321 aircraft to its fleet in the second half of this year.

Six other South Korean carriers currently operate flights to Da Nang, a destination that draws about 500,000 South Koreans a year, The number of South Korean tourists to the central city has increased remarkably over the last two years, by 27 per cent in 2016 and 40 per cent in 2017, according to the General Statistics Office. South Korean tourists have overtaken Chinese tourists as representing the highest number of international visitors to the city.

Vietnam welcomed more than 2 million South Korean visitors last year, an increase of 56.4 per cent year-on-year. South Korea, meanwhile, attracted some 323,000 visitors from Vietnam, up nearly 29 per cent against 2016.
