First Thai Vietjet Air flight to take off on June 21 between Thai capital and "capital' of Mekong Delta.
Vietravel and Thai Vietjet Air, an arrangement between Thai Kan Air and Vietjet Air, have officially opened Can Tho - Bangkok flights to attract more foreign visitors to Can Tho province in particular and promote tourism development in Thailand and the Mekong Delta in general.
The first flight from Can Tho to Bangkok will take off on June 21, using Airbus A320 aircraft with 180 seats and an average ticket price of around VND2.699 million ($124) one-way. Flight duration is only about 90 minutes.
According to Mr. Le Van Tam, Chairman of the Can Tho People’s Committee, the opening of the route is a great opportunity for Can Tho to promote its tourism sites among Thai tourists.
For his part, Mr. Le Thanh Phong, Vice Chairman of the Mekong Delta Tourism Association, believes the Delta attracts many tourists for its unspoiled natural beauty. “The new route will contribute to attracting visitors not only from Thailand but also many other countries around the world,” he was quoted as saying.
Can Tho Airport welcomed over 225,000 passengers in the first six months of this year, an increase of 72 per cent compared with the same period of 2014 but less than its designed capacity of 3 million passengers per year.
The airport caters to flights to and from Hanoi, Da Nang, Phu Quoc Island, Da Lat, and Con Dao as well Chinese Taipei during the Lunar New Year holidays.
