Move expected to increase the number of Chinese visitors to coastal city and surrounds.
The Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a working session with China Southern Airlines last week, where a representative of the airline said that it aims to launch direct flights from Quang Chau to Cam Ranh Airport (Nha Trang), starting from April 28 with three flights a week.
Recognizing the coastal city’s potential, China Southern Airlines also proposed the Department assist it in the launch of the new Nha Trang routes and provide information on events and festivals for in-flight promotion.
China Southern Airlines is the largest carrier in China, with 623 aircraft flying 126 international routes and 605 domestic routes.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2014 Khanh Hoa province welcomed around 33,000 Chinese visitors, up 18 per cent compared to 2013. Deputy Director of the provincial Tourism Promotion Information Center, Mr. Luyen Manh Cuong, said that the province and Nha Trang hold great potential, with high occupancy rates in three- to five-star hotels and resorts with an average guest stay of four to five days.
The Ministry also said that as the number of Russian tourists has been declining over recent times the China market should receive more focus so that international tourism markets are diversified and targets of welcoming 4 million visitors to Khanh Hoa this year are achieved. One million of these are to be international visitors.
