A direct air route connecting Chongqing, the largest municipality in the southwest of China, and Vietnam’s capital Hanoi has been launched by the China-based Chongqing Airlines.

The schedule is four flights a week, on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Flights depart from Chongqing at 9.15am and return from Hanoi at 2.45pm (both local times) on the same day.

Using Airbus 320 aircraft, Chongqing Airlines expects to serve an average of 150 passengers on each flight.

Vietnam is among the attractive destinations for international tourists from Chongqing and surrounding cities and provinces. Passengers flying from Chongqing to Hanoi previously had to transfer in Changsha, Nanning, or Beihai, making travel inconvenient and time consuming.

As one of China’s four directly-controlled municipalities, together with Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin, Chongqing has maintained rapid economic development while preserving a wonderful natural environment. It shares borders with the provinces of Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Shaanxi and attracts visitors from home and abroad for its natural wonders and cultural heritage. It is also growing as a hub for China’s core links with Southeast Asia.

Founded in 2007 and based in Chongqing, Chongqing Airlines operates domestic passenger services in mainland China. It is jointly owned by China Southern Airlines and the Chongqing Municipal Development and Investment Company. It launched its first international services in February 2016, with a Chongqing-Bangkok service. The airline has expanded its services overseas in recent years, with flights from Chongqing to Bangkok, Phuket (Thailand), and Singapore.
