A cherry blossom festival will be held for the first time in the central highlands city of Da Lat from January 26 to 28 to introduce the beautiful flowers of the city to tourists and promote local tourism.

The festival will take place in five locations in the hilly resort city, mostly around Tuyen Lam Lake. The lake’s surrounding areas are home to more than 35,000 cherry trees, according to Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Head of the festival’s Organizing Committee.

Tuyen Lam Lake will host a variety of entertainment and cultural activities during the festival, such as water music performances, a golf tournament, a musical night, a photo exhibition by famous local photographers, and boat trips to admire cherry blossoms.

Cherry blossoms are also found in the area around Xuan Huong Lake in the city center, the Da Lat Maple tourist area, the Hoa Son Dien Trang tourism site, and streets in the city such as Dong Da, Ba Thang Tu, Ho Tung Mau, Le Dai Hanh, Tran Hung Dao, Pho Duc Chinh, and Tuong Pho.

Cherry blossoms have long been considered a typical flower of Da Lat when spring arrives, “dyeing” the city a beautiful pink. The city therefore decided to organize a biannual cherry blossom festival along with its successful biannual flower festival. A cherry blossom festival was planned for last year but suspended after the flowers failed to bloom due to poor weather.

The city’s cherry blossom trees have already begun to bloom this year, with the season lasting from early January to February and encompassing the Tet holiday. A huge number of tourists from far and wide have been flocking to the city to enjoy the beauty of the cherry blossoms in full bloom.

Situated 1,500 meters above sea level on the Langbiang Plateau in the southern reaches of the central highlands, Da Lat is endowed by nature with an average annual temperature of 25C and beautiful landscapes surrounded by mountain ranges and forests, especially pine forests. It’s decorated with colorful carpets of flowers everywhere, from large fields in valleys to street sidewalks, and is home to over 40 different species of chrysanthemums, 15 species of roses, and about 300 varieties of orchids. It’s also known as one of Vietnam’s most poetic spots and is charmingly described as the “City of Love”, the “City of Thousands of Pine Trees”, the “City of Mist”, and, most commonly, the “City of Flowers”.
