As team sponsor and host port, local authorities will promote the image, culture and people of Vietnam in general and Da Nang in particular.
Da Nang city will be team sponsor and host port of the Clipper 2015-2016 Round the World Yacht Race, a press conference held on July 27 in the city was told. A sponsorship agreement was signed earlier on the same day.
Director of the Clipper Race’s Crew Recruitment and Development, Mr. David Cusworth, presented the details of the race and the expected benefits it will bring to the city, saying it will showcase Da Nang to the world.
The Clipper Race fleet is estimated to arrive in Da Nang in mid-February 2016 and stay in the city for 5-12 days. The race will start on August 30, 2015 in London, then head to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Cape Town (South Africa), and Albany, Sydney, Hobart and the Whitsundays (Australia), before arriving in Da Nang and returning to London on July 30, 2016.
Over 700 people from more than 40 countries around the world will join the race, and the image of Da Nang will appear with famous tourist destinations such as London Bridge Tower and the Sydney Opera House. It will be an opportunity to promote the image and culture and people of Vietnam in general and Da Nang in particular.
Deputy Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr. Dang Viet Dung, said the city is extremely proud to be the Southeast Asian host port and team sponsor of the Clipper 2015-16 Round the World Yacht Race. He added that as a young and dynamic city Da Nang is willing to take on a challenge in the same spirit as the sailors taking part in the race.
