A tour entiled “History, architecture and traditional arts” at the capital’s iconic work of the Hanoi Opera House has just been launched, starting to welcome tourists from September 6.

Open from 10:30 am to 12pm from Monday and Friday, the tour includes two parts. The first one allows visitors to learn about the history of theatre’s construction and architectural style; access to the original design of the French architects; visit the main hall, the stairs, the auditorium, the seating; enjoy tea in the mirror room to learn about the vestige of the bullet in December 1946 under the French colony; and see documents and photos of major events having been taken place inside and outside the Hanoi Opera House. The other part includes “ Vietnamese soul” art performances, such as solo monochord, flute concerto, choreography, puppetry…  Fare is VND400,000 ($17.6) per person.

The move aims to make the Hanoi’s landmark to become an attractive sight, combining the House Opera visiting and art watching. It expects to attract more domestic and international visitors, which will contribute to preserving traditional arts and culture as well as developing tourism, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Located near Hoan Kiem Lake, the 2,600 sq m theatre is a phenomenal piece of neo-classical French architecture, with pillars, shuttered windows, balconies, a mirrored room, and Gothic detailing on its doors and domes and was constructed between 1901 and 1911. The theatre is historical evidence of the capital’s cultural and social development in the colonial French period (1857-1945).

As one of the most opulent buildings in Hanoi, it has also been assessed as one of the most beautiful buildings in Southeast Asia. It often houses major events, including meetings and high-class performances by domestic and international artists. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has produced publications, brochures, and souvenirs and trained staff at the Opera House to welcome foreign visitors.
