Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has requested the Hanoi People’s Committee prepare plans to establish the Hanoi Tourism Department.
According to the People’s Committee, as the capital and also the cultural and economic center of the country Hanoi has great potential for tourism development. The Tourism Department would be separate from the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and promote the city’s strengths and conduct more effective activities relating to tourism.
The Prime Minister directed the People’s Committee to complete procedures for submission to the Hanoi People’s Council for a decision.
In the first six months, as the number of tourists nationwide fell Hanoi welcomed 4 per cent more compared to the same period of 2014, at an estimated 10,030,783. International visitors stood at nearly 1.6 million, up 8.8 per cent, while domestic tourists reached nearly 8.5 million, up three per cent.
Total revenues were estimated at VND25.4 trillion ($1.16 billion), up some 3 per cent against the first half of 2014.
