Edelweiss Air to conduct direct flights connecting HCMC and Zurich from next year.

Edelweiss Air, Switzerland’s leading leisure airline, will conduct two direct flights between Zurich and Ho Chi Minh City each week starting from next year, as part of its plan to expand its flight network in Asia.

The new route will be operated by Airbus A340-300 aircraft with a capacity of 314 passengers, including 27 Business Class bed-seats, 76 Economy Max seats, and 211 Economy seats. Business Class is equipped with modern entertainment system with HD touch screens while the special Economic Max class offers 76 spacious seats with six inches more leg room and reclining seats.

The new route will help travelers from Switzerland and European countries come to Vietnam easily and conveniently, according to Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss Air. Vietnam is a well-known tourist destination and becoming more popular among Swiss tourists. Visitors from Switzerland often stay for longer and spend more than those from other countries, so the airline expects to carry about 10,500 passengers to Ho Chi Minh City each year, raking in $32 million.

The new route is also expected to create favorable conditions for passengers to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to various destinations in Europe within Swiss International Airlines’ network.

Vietnam welcomed 31,475 visitors from Switzerland last year and the number is expected to reach 35,000 this year.

According to data from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the General Statistics Office, tourists from visa waiver countries such as France, Denmark, and Norway spend more than $1,000.

Edelweiss Air has announced plans to expand its network by 20 per cent in the summer of 2018, adding eleven new destinations and reaching a total of 66 destinations in 32 countries. Each year, it transports about 1.8 million passengers to and from resorts all over the world.
