Resort nominated in Best Achievement in Design category in the Virtuoso Best of the Best Awards.
InterContinental ® Danang Sun Peninsula Resort has been nominated in the category of Best Achievement in Design in the Virtuoso Best of the Best Awards for global luxury resorts, to be held at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas on August 12.
The resort is located on Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang and invested by the Sun Group. Designed by Mr. Bill Bensley, known as a master of resort design, InterContinental ® Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is said to be one of his masterpieces.
Famed as an architect who respects ecosystems, in designing the resort he did his best to retain its natural vegetation.
He changed its design to keep the foliage on the peninsula, even changing the route of a road so that a number of trees would be left standing.
The materials used to build the resort are different to those he used in previous designs in India, Cambodia and Thailand, with the Da Nang resort utilizing sustainable materials and wood in its construction.
InterContinental ® Danang Sun Peninsula Resort reminds customers of Vietnam’s ancient temples, with statues of lions, dragons, elephants and lotuses. Mr. Bensley also brought the lanterns of nearby Hoi An ancient town to his architecture, reflected in the curve of the resort.
Vietnamese culture features prominently at the resort, with beauty in harmony with nature.
With a passion for Eastern mysticism, Mr. Bensley created gorgeous architecture for the resort. Architectural Digest magazine said he was an architect who has changed thinking in regards to the design of resorts and spas around the world. He has been ranked among the Top 5 best architects for the four years in succession.
