New terminal capable of handling 4 million passengers.
A group of investors has sought permission from the Ministry of Transport to build a new terminal at Da Nang International Airport.
The investors, comprising the Thang Long Air Services Corporation (TASECO), the AOV Investment Corporation, and the Ha Noi Construction Corporation, proposed the construction after the ministry called upon organizations and individuals to invest in railway, airport and road infrastructure in the country. The new terminal will be built next to the existing terminal.
Mr. Pham Ngoc Thanh, a representative of the investors and President of TASECO's board of management, said that the existing terminal was designed to handle between 4 and 6 million passengers by 2020, but the launch of additional international and domestic flights to the city has increased passenger numbers considerably.
"The construction of a new terminal, with a capacity of handling 4 million passengers, would help address the potential for overcrowding in the years to come," Mr. Thanh said.
Construction will be under the build-operate-transfer mode, and the investors will present specific construction plans if the proposal is approved, he added.
The existing terminal at Da Nang International Airport was built on an area of 14,400 square meters. With investment of more than VND1.3 trillion ($60.8 million), the four-storey terminal became operational in 2010.
