Policy is hoped to promote tourism to the island.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has approved the addition of Phu Quoc International Airport to the list of airports able to provide VAT refunds to foreigners and overseas Vietnamese.
The Deputy PM had assigned the Ministry of Finance to cooperate with related ministries and departments to research and report to the PM on the matter. Based on that, Decision No. 24/2009/QD-TTg dated February 17, 2009 and Decision No. 44/2013/QD-TTg dated July 19, 2013, issued regarding the sale of duty-free goods, will be considered for amendment and supplement.
According to Document No. 1127/UBND-KTTH dated October 17, 2014, from the Kien Giang Provincial People’s Committee, Phu Quoc International Airport officially welcomed its first international flight in February 2014, from Russia, and continues to welcome two more flights, from Singapore and Siem Reap (Cambodia). Under the direction of the PM on promoting tourism development on Phu Quoc Island, the implementation of VAT refund at the Phu Quoc International Airport will be an important measure in attracting visitors.
The PM has directed four international airports - Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Noi Bai (Hanoi), Da Nang (Da Nang), Cam Ranh (Khanh Hoa) - and three ports - Khanh Hoi (Ho Chi Minh City), Da Nang (Da Nang), Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa province) - be part of a policy providing VAT refunds to foreigners and overseas Vietnamese.
