Some 1,500 amateur, semi-professional, and professional runners from around the world are expected to set out from Hoai River Square on September 17 for The Hoi An International Marathon 2017.

In addition to a traditional 42-km marathon, fun runs will also be held along distances of 5 and 10 km, starting at 4.30am.

Sponsors include Index Creative Village, Bangkok Airways, Green Hat, and Fab Motion.

Aimed at promoting tourism and culture in the world heritage city of Hoi An, the runs are open to all, regardless of nationality, gender or age.

Located in central Vietnam, just south of Da Nang, the ancient town of Hoi An is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with more than 2,000 years of history, and in particular was a leading trading port in Southeast Asia during the 17th and 18th centuries. As well as historical sites are many temples, pagodas and old houses influenced by Chinese and Japanese architecture. The Hoai River and its channels made the list of the ten most famous canals in the world on the US-based travel website touropia.com in 2014. Nearby are also beautiful beaches, islands, and fields, with the town’s rich culture and food being major attractions.
