Rising numbers good news for region and its tourism destinations.
Increasing numbers of tourists to Da Nang, Quang Nam and Thua Thien - Hue during the first half of the year indicate the central region continues to grow in popularity.
Da Nang welcomed over 2.2 million visitors in the first half, an increase of 24.9 per cent compared to the same period last year. Domestic tourists numbered 1.6 million, up 22 per cent, while international arrivals were 600,000, rising 33.1 per cent against the same period of 2014.
Total revenue from tourism in the city reached VND6.3 trillion ($292.3 million), a 35 per cent increase year-on-year and representing 53.3 per cent of the annual plan.
Meanwhile, the number of visitors to Quang Nam, home of Hoi An ancient town, was 1.8 million in the first half, an increase of 7.45 per cent over the same period of 2014 and 48.44 per cent of the annual plan. International visitors were 990,000, up 9.6 per cent, while the number of domestic tourists rose 5 per cent, to 875,000.
Revenue was estimated at VND1.2 trillion ($57 million), up 13 per cent and accounting for 47.7 per cent of the annual target.
Tourists to Thua Thien - Hue increased only slightly in number, by 1 per cent to 1.5 million. Total revenue in the first six months was VND1.4 trillion ($65.1 million), up 2 per cent compared to the same period of 2014, with 62 per cent coming from international visitors.
