Vietnam Airlines’ baggage allowance on all domestic and international flights is to change from being based on weight to being based on pieces (with a maximum weight) from August 1.

Passengers who have purchased or will purchase tickets before August 1 will be eligible for the standard allowance indicated on their tickets.

Global airlines such as Air France, Aeroflot, British Airways, Lufthansa, All Nippon Airways, and Korean Air have based baggage allowances on this method for some time. The change at the national flag carrier will unify its policies with the industry’s major players and provide extra convenience for passengers with connecting flights with other airlines.

The baggage allowance for Business class passengers will be one piece (32kg) on domestic routes and Vietnam - Southeast Asia routes, and two pieces (32kg each) on Vietnam - Northeast Asia, Europe, Australia, and the US routes.

Economy class passengers are entitled to one piece (23kg) on domestic routes and Vietnam - Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Europe, and Australia routes, and two pieces (23kg each) on Vietnam - Japan and US routes. Premium Economy passengers can take two pieces (23kg each) on Vietnam - Northeast Asia, Europe, Australia, and the US routes, and one piece (32kg) on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh route.

The number of pieces of hand luggage remains the same but the weight will increase. Economy class passengers can bring one piece (12kg) while Premium Economy and Business passengers can bring two pieces (totaling 18kg).

Economy Class passengers with flights to and from Europe and Australia from August 1 to December 31 will have their baggage allowance increased by one piece (23kg). The carrier will also offer discounts of up to 50 per cent on pre-purchase as well as additional baggage charges.

Vietnam Airlines has again been certified as a four-star airline by prestigious international air transport rating organization Skytrax. Skytrax’s assessment revealed that factors where it was rated 4.5 to 5 stars increased 16 per cent compared to 2016, when it first received four-star certification.

Achieving Skytrax’s four-star international rating places Vietnam Airlines in esteemed company, alongside many of the world’s premium airlines, including Air France, British Airways, Emirates, and Korean Air.

The carrier has a wide-body fleet of 14 Airbus A350s and will take delivery of three Boeing 787-10s this year, while continuing to upgrade its narrow-body fleet with 20 Airbus A321neo, to be received by the end of 2020.
