Hanoi travel fair a venue for promoting tourism and connecting tourism companies.
The opening ceremony of the Vietnam International Travel Mart 2016 (VITM), the country’s leading tourism show and one of the largest in the region, took place on April 13 in Hanoi.
Under the theme “Vietnam - A Paradise of Sea & Island Tourism”, the key activities at the fair will be held from April 14 to April 17 at the Vietnam Exhibition Center in Giang Vo Street, Ba Dinh district.
In addition to creating opportunities for cooperation among provinces and enterprises the fair will also introduce thousands of tourism products.
The organizing board has received registrations from 535 enterprises to open 502 booths. Of these, 115 are international booths from 25 countries and territories and 387 are domestic booths from 42 cities and provinces in Vietnam.
Airlines will provide some 20,000 promotional tickets and travel agencies about 15,000 promotional tours with discounts of between 20 and 30 per cent. The number of discounted products at the fair is around 20 per cent higher than last year.
Vietnam welcomed some 7.9 million international tourists last year and hosted 30 million domestic tourists, earning revenue of $15.09 billion, or 6 per cent of GDP.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien expressed his appreciation of the achievements made in the tourism sector but said results still fall short of potential.
He said that VITM 2016 in Hanoi and the International Travel Expo in Ho Chi Minh City are professional forums for meetings and discussions and for linking tourism businesses together.
