PM gives green light to airport upgrades.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has agreed to plans to turn Vinh Airport in northern Nghe An province into an international-standard airport.
The Prime Minister has asked the Ministry of Transport to collect opinions from ministries involved in planning for Vinh Airport to become an international airport in the period to 2020 and subsequent orientation in accordance with law.
The overall plans for Vinh Airport were approved by the Ministry of Transport in 2006, with some items adjusted in 2011. It is forecast that by 2025 the airport will welcome 2.5 million passengers annually and have slots for seven aircraft. Vinh Airport now welcomes around 1.25 million passengers each year, which has grown by an average of 43.9 per cent over the last 13 years; the highest in the country.
