Tickets in 6/45 Mega jackpot lottery available from July 18.
The 6/45 Mega lottery, a Lotto-style game with a minimum jackpot of VND12 billion ($545,000), was launched on July 18 by Berjaya Gia Thinh, a joint venture between the Vietnam Lottery Company (Vietlott) and Malaysia’s Berjaya Corporation Berhad.
The official launch ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City by Vietlott on the morning of July 18.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Yen, Public Relations Manager at Berjaya Gia Thinh, told VET that the company has selected five agents for ticket sales. The list, which has been published on Vietlott website, comprises Alpha Wing Investment Co. Ltd., Co Bon La Investment Co. Ltd., Fortuna Investment Co. Ltd., Max Toto Commercial Co. Ltd. and Lucky Vietnam Co. Ltd.
“There have been a lot of parties registering to become agents,” Ms. Yen said.
According to a representative from Vietlott, the company will only control and manage the commissions of these agents, who can open subsidiaries with sales outlets.
For only VND10,000 ($0.45) per ticket, those playing the Mega 6/45 lottery will have the chance to win a jackpot of at least VND12 billion ($545,000).
The special feature of the 6/45 Mega lottery is that the prize accumulates until there is a winner. When there are no winners from a draw, the jackpot is added to the next draw.
The Berjaya Gia Thinh joint venture was formed under a business cooperation contract (BCC) between Vietlott and Berjaya Group.
For the first month the joint venture initially plans to sell tickets at around 800 outlets belonging to the five agents in Ho Chi Minh City before expanding to 10,000 outlets around the country over the next five years.
Under Circular No. 136 from the Ministry of Finance, individuals can be lottery agents if they are 18 years of age or older and a Vietnamese citizens with full legal recognition (except for staff working at lottery companies and their relatives).
Such individuals must have a stable business location with enough space to house facilities and equipment for selling lottery tickets.
Lotteries in Vietnam have proven to be quite profitable. The Lottery Company of Ho Chi Minh City announced pre-tax profits in the first half of 2016 of $22.5 million, or 65 per cent of its annual plan.
The new 6/45 Mega lottery and its potentially high jackpot will create major competition for existing lottery companies in Vietnam.
In the US in January this year a cumulative jackpot was finally won. It had reached $1.59 billion from an initial $40 million, or 37.5 times higher.
