Mr. Hussey will be responsible for growing the bank’s local service offerings and capabilities for clients active in the country’s major trade corridors. He previously held the position of Country Officer for Citi Vietnam. The appointment is subject to regulatory approval and Head of Global Markets Vietnam, Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Binh, will continue as acting Vietnam CEO until Mr. Hussey officially takes up the position, expected in March. Mr. Muhmood moved to Singapore in November as ANZ’s Global Head of Diversified Industries.
Mr. Hussey has worked in a range of wholesale and consumer banking roles over the last 19 years and was previously Citi’s Head of Corporate Banking in Vietnam between 2000 and 2002. He also led Citi’s consumer banking business in Spain and Japan and has led the wholesale business for Citi in Sri Lanka as well as a Thai securities company. Commenting on the appointment, ANZ CEO of International Banking Mr. Farhan Faruqui said: “Mr. Hussey has the right mix of retail and corporate banking experience to lead this business and connect our customers with opportunities at a time when Vietnam’s economy and financial sector are fast-developing.”
ANZ is one of five 100 per cent foreign-owned banks in Vietnam. The bank offers a range of services across institutional and corporate banking, financial markets, trade finance, commercial banking, and retail and wealth banking. “Vietnam is becoming a key Asian manufacturing hub and our customers are seeing strong potential for growth in both export and domestic markets,” said Mr. Faruqui.
