$228.9 million wind power plant officially put into operation on January 17.
The Cong Ly Construction, Trading, and Tourism Co. opened the Bac Lieu Wind Power Plant in Vinh Trach Dong commune in Bac Lieu province’s Bac Lieu city on January 17.
With total investment of VND5.21 trillion ($228.9 million) it is the first seaside wind power plant in Vietnam.
Construction began in September 2010 and the plant covers an area of over 1,300 ha on the Bac Lieu’s coast, with an annual capacity of 320 million KWh.
According to Mr. To Hoai Dan, General Director of Cong Ly, the total power supplied to the national grid during the process of construction (from the plant’s first wind turbine to opening) reached 130 million KWh, bringing in revenue from power sales of VND150 billion ($6.7 million), of which VND15 billion ($669,600) was contributed to the State budget.
The power plant will generate electricity for the national grid under a long-term sales agreement with Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and will also serve ecotourism activities.
Cong Ly will continue to prepare plans to implement the next phase of construction of 71 2MW wind turbines with total capacity of 142MW.
The investment for this next phase of construction is expected to be VND8.85 trillion ($395 million) and will be completed within 36 months and put into operation and supply the national grid by the end of 2018.
