Bamboo Airways and Prague International Airport in the Czech Republic have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Czech Republic Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.

After direct flights from Hanoi to Prague are opened and put into operation by Bamboo Airways using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, travelling time from Vietnam to the Czech Republic is expected to be cut to just 12 hours. Bamboo Airways is currently working with Czech authorities to complete relevant procedures.

Prague International Airport will apply many incentives to Bamboo Airways in hours of service, market research and promotion, policies on takeoffs and landings, and passenger service charges in the first years of operation.

This is a positive result of cooperation between Bamboo Airways and the Czech Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic, the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Transport, the Czech Republic’s National Administration of Tourism, and Prague International Airport.

At the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Phuc, who was on an official visit to the Czech Republic,  expressed his support for Bamboo Airways to open direct flights connecting Vietnam and the Czech Republic with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to support tourism development and human resources and promote trade and relations between the two countries.

The Czech Prime Minister also affirmed that direct flights could boost trade and tourism between the two countries. “We also support the Vietnamese airline in establishing a direct route from Hanoi to Prague soon,” he added.

The Czech Ministry of Transport also supports the carrier’s plan to launch direct flights.

It vowed to work with relevant agencies in the country and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to help Bamboo Airways complete procedures for flight permission as regulated.

Ms. Duong Thi Mai Hoa, Vice President and Deputy General Director of Bamboo Airways, said the Czech Republic has a large Vietnamese community of nearly 70,000 people, but those who want to fly between the two countries must chose extended routes. “With this new direct route, Bamboo Airways expects to contribute to efforts in facilitating economic development between the two countries while promoting the tourism and trade activities between the two,” she said.
