Conference hears of successful push for Vietnamese consumers to buy Vietnamese goods.
On July 31 the Vietnam Association of Foreign Invested Enterprises (VAFIE) cooperated with Samsung Vietnam to hold a conference entitled “Proud Vietnam Items - Connecting Commodity Chains from Production to Supermarket”. The Ministry of Industry and Trade shared the results of five years of the “Vietnamese Using Vietnamese Goods” campaign at the conference, revealing that 92 per cent of consumers care about the campaign, 63 per cent like using Vietnamese goods, and 54 per cent consumers advise their family and friends to use Vietnamese goods. “At the moment, Vietnamese goods have special places in distribution centers of both domestic firms and foreign invested firms,” said Mr. Vo Van Quyen, Head of the Domestic Market Department.
According to official documents from the Central Steering Committee of the campaign, all products assembled and manufactured inside Vietnam are recognized as Vietnamese goods. This means that the term “Vietnamese goods” not only applies to products made by Vietnamese firms but also those made by foreign-invested firms. This is the foundation to strengthening the credibility and quality of Vietnamese goods in the domestic market and the international market. Along with Vietnam, foreign direct investment (FDI) will certainly create new power for Vietnamese goods.
“From a management point of view I think this is a point that needs to be consistent, not only in ideology but also in the actions of firms in Vietnam,” said Mr. Dang Xuan Quang, Deputy General Director of the Foreign Investment Agency at the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
According to Dr. Nguyen Mai, President of VAFIE, FDI has contributed a lot to Vietnam’s economy over a long period of time. Many foreign invested firms have conducted huge long-term investment projects, making the country an important link in their global supply chain. “Vietnamese goods with international standards produced from FDI projects are welcomed in many countries and regions across the globe,” he said. “As for the domestic market, these products have been enhancing customer trust and raising the pride of customers in Vietnamese goods that meet international standards.”
The more than 200 delegates representing Vietnamese firms at the conference want authorities to conduct activities promoting Vietnamese goods in the domestic market and overseas.
