World's third-largest cruise ship docks at Chan May after upgrades expand its capacity to berth large vessels.
To mark the opening of upgrades of infrastructure at Wharf 1 at Chan May Port in Hue, the port welcomed the cruise ship Voyager of the Seas on September 21, with 5,000 tourists and crew on board. The Voyager of the Seas is the third-largest ship in the world, following Oasis of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas, with a length of 311 meters and a width of 48 meters, 15 decks, and 1,306 rooms.
After docking at Chan May Port visitors can visit historic sites and landscapes and enjoy local cuisine and other services in Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, and Hoi An.
The upgrading of Wharf 1 received total investment of VND310 billion ($12.8 million). The Royal Caribbean International Corporation from the US, which owns Voyager of the Seas, invested $5 million in the upgrades, which will permit the berthing of passenger ships more than 360 meters in length and carrying 4,000 to 5,000 passengers.
The port is now able to berth large vessels such as Quantum of the Seas and Oasis of the Sea, which will boost the development of the local tourism industry and local logistics services.
Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Cao, expects the port will attract over 60,000 tourists to Hue this year.
Oasis of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world, with a length of 361 meters and a capacity of 5,400 passengers and 2,394 crew members. It has seven entertainment areas, 21 pools, and 37 bars.
