Project to meet transport needs of companies at Nghi Son Economic Zone.
The Nghi Son Iron and Steel Corporation kicked off construction of an international port in north-central Thanh Hoa province’s Nghi Son Economic Zone on September 9.
The port is an important element in the development of the economic zone, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai told the breaking ground ceremony, with the port to be connected with other transport to meet the needs of industries and infrastructure development at the economic zone.
With investment of VND5.8 trillion ($258 million) the project covers an area of 71 ha and includes wharves and warehouses.
The project has a total of nine wharves with a total length of 2,250 meters, which can berth 50,000 DWT vessels and handle 30 million tons of cargo per year.
The first three wharves (No. 1, No. 2 and No. 2a) are expected to be put into operation in October next year.
The next two wharves (No. 3 and No. 4) will be completed in 2017 and Wharf No. 5 will be completed in 2018. Construction of the entire complex will be completed by 2021.
