Lab expected to develop educational technology start-ups in Vietnam.
Topica EdTechLab, the first educational technology lab in Southeast Asia, was launched in Hanoi on July 21 by the Topica Edtech Group. The lab will be available for 12-week periods to developers who have ideas on applying technology in education. They may even have the chance to make applications for users in Southeast Asia via Topica’s network.
A contest to find the best idea in applying technology in education will also be organized in the lab, with the winner having the chance to visit the offices of Facebook, Google and EdTech Startup in Silicon Valley.
“Start-ups and developers can experience modern technology and put their ideas into reality in the lab,” said Founder and Co-Director of Topica, Mai Duy Quang. He added that most technology start-ups don’t have experience with modern technology, which limits their ideas.
The range of products participants at EdTechLab can experience include Oculus (Facebook’s glasses that create a sense of complete immersion in a 3D world), Hololens (Microsoft’s glasses that float 3D images before the eyes and can change the look of real-world objects), Telepresence Robot, Drone, and 3D Printer.
Topica has some potential projects on education technology at its lab, such as creating remote lessons via Telepresence Robot (which will support teachers in e-learning), mobile learning, and studying a foreign language via a smartwatch.
