Fruit and vegetable trade in surplus

Vietnamese fruit and vegetables record trade surplus of $956 million in 2014.

According to the Vietnamese Fruit and Vegetables Association (Vinafruit), estimated export turnover from fruit and vegetables is $1.477 billion for 2014 compared to $1.073 billion in 2013. Estimated import turnover is $521 million compared to $406 million in the previous year.

In the first eleven months of 2014 export turnover stood at $1.356 billion and import turnover $479 million. The Top 10 importers of Vietnamese fruit and vegetables in the first eleven were China, Japan, the US, South Korea, the Netherlands, Russia, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore.

China is the largest consumer, accounting for 26.43 per cent of the total value. In the first eleven months it imported fruit and vegetables from Vietnam with a total value of $358.6 million.

The Top 10 exporters of fruit and vegetables to Vietnam in the first eleven months were Thailand, China, the US, Myanmar, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, South Korea and Chile. Thailand was the largest, accounting for 29.2 per cent of the total value, or $139.9 million.
