The Noi Bai - Bac Ninh highway expansion is attracting a great deal of attention.
Plans are in place to expand the 32km Noi Bai - Bac Ninh section of the No 18A highway, managed by Thang Long Project Management Unit (PMU Thang Long) under the Ministry of Transport, to four lanes. The project is expected to cost more than VND2 trillion ($93 million).
The project is attracting a lot of potential interest, with Hoa Phat Group (HPG) and My Da Construction Company both considering involvement. The Hanoi People's Committee and PMU Thang Long are in discussions to agree on design.
The highway project will benefit from Official Development Assistance (ODA) from the Japanese government and reciprocal capital from Vietnam's government. The highway was opened in 2008 by the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam. The highway is increasingly becoming an important link connecting the airport to the north and north east provinces.
HPG is known as one of the leading conglomerates in the north of Vietnam. Their key fields are steel, interiors and industrial infrastructure. The company also invests in cement and real estate. Most recently, the group also extended to the agricultural sector with modern feed production lines.
