First unit to be officially put into operation in early Q2 2015.
Mong Duong Thermal Power Plant 1 will soon connect its first unit to the national electricity grid, in the early part of the second quarter this year.
Mong Duong has total investment of nearly VND33.620 trillion ($1.568 billion) with two units. The Power Generation Corporation 3 (GENCO 3) was assigned by Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) as the investor.
Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. (South Korea) is the contractor and will provide equipment and installation for the two units, each of which has a capacity of 540 MW, in Zone 8, Mong Duong ward, Cam Pha city, northern Quang Ninh province.
The Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 (PECC1) is the consultant on setting up the investment project and its technical design, while Pöyry from Switzerland is the consultant on construction supervision (including support in design and construction drawing approval).
The second unit is expected to connect to the electronic system in June 2015 and be completed in October 2015.
Mong Duong Thermal Power Plant 1 uses Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) technology. It is estimated to have an annual power output of 5.8 billion kW.
The Plant plays an important role in promoting the socio-economic development of the northeast’s key economic region in 2015 and subsequent years. It will reduce dependence on hydropower resources, especially in the dry season, cut power losses, and increase security and stability in the system.
The total amount of commercial electricity in 2015 is expected to reach 142 billion kWh, an increase of 10.4 per cent compared to 2014. EVN is committed to supplying enough electricity need for socio-economic development in 2015.
