The MPOS Vietnam Technology Joint Stock Company (MPOS Vietnam) and GHL Systems Berhad from Malaysia signed a strategic cooperation agreement on November 7 regarding mobile payment card acceptance.

This opens up opportunities for the strong development of electronic payments in Vietnam and Southeast Asia for MPOS.

MPOS.vn is already cooperating with 3,000 business units and more than 7,000 points accepting payment cards.

“As the unique PoS [point of sale] mobile payment service provider in Vietnam, we strongly believe in the potential of this cooperation agreement,” said Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuat, General Director of MPOS Vietnam. “MPOS.vn will expand its business to all other markets in the region via GHL, exporting payment technology developed by Vietnamese.”

MPOS.vn belongs to the NextTech Group of Technopreneurs, the leading electronics ecosystem in Vietnam with more than 20 technology products in e-commerce, logistics, and warehousing.

The partnership also marks GHL’s first step into Vietnam, said Mr. Shimon Loh, Vice President of GHL Systems Berhad. “We believe that Vietnam has key factors to boost electronic payments and the strengths of both companies will enhance MPOS’s position in the field of electronic payments in Vietnam and ASEAN,” he said.

Established in 2014, MPOS.vn is the only Vietnamese company to replace traditional heavy-duty card acceptors with compact card readers connected to mobile phones via Bluetooth.

In Vietnam’s electronic payments market, there are more than 112 million cards issued by 40 financial institutions but only about 300,000 are accepted. MPOS and GHL will promote the development of mobile and internet-based payment methods, including QR-Code and NFC.

The cooperation deal will open up a new direction in the development strategy of the two sides, bringing more benefits to card accepting units and customers and promoting the development of electronic payments in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

GHL Systems Berhad is a leading payment service provider in ASEAN, operating in Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Australia and providing payment services such as internet and phone billing solutions.
