Online orders for new Bkav phone nearly crashes system.
On its first day of sale 11,822 Bphones were ordered online. Demand was such early on in the day that Bkav’s site experienced difficulties, but by midday around 4,800 Bphones had been sold.
The 16 GB version was the most popular, accounting for nearly half of the total. “We were actually surprised at the number of people ordering the gold-plated version,” a representative of Bkav said. “We thought we would sell a few but orders account for nearly 20 per cent.”
Ho Chi Minh City was the origin of most orders, followed by Hanoi and then Da Nang, Nghe An, and Quang Ninh. According to Bkav, those who ordered early yesterday will receive their phone early next week, while those who ordered later in the day will receive it within the next two or three weeks.
Bkav offers free delivery in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, while charging VND200,000 ($9.17) for delivery elsewhere. Some buyers in the two cities, however, said that were charged a delivery fee when buying multiple phones, for example being charged VND1 million ($45.85) when buying five Bphones. In response, Bkav said that this was due to an error in their online purchasing system that had been corrected and fixed.
