Nedspice Vietnam Processing, a subsidiary of the Nedspice Group, has just opened expansions to its factory in southern Binh Duong province covering 8,000 sq m, bringing the total production area to 25,000 sq m.

The factory received modern equipment and a closed production line meeting European standards. In addition to pepper, the company also processes spices such as cinnamon, coriander, and chili and now has customers in around 150 countries worldwide.

Nedspice last year exported 14,500 tons of spices that originate from all over the world and thereby generating a revenue of $100 million worth of spices. This year, the company is enjoying a volume growth of some 30 per cent and expected this rate to be maintained in subsequent years

The company has been cooperating with more than 540 farmers in neighboring Binh Phuoc province to buy 1,500 tons of pepper due to demand and its expansion. The total area of pepper fields is over 700 ha and many new clean pepper cooperatives have been established as part of the joint program.

It will continue to cooperate with the province in developing raw material areas under its large, clean, and safe production model and at the same time support more clean pepper care technology to benefit more local farmers.

According to Mr. Willem Van Walt Meijer, CEO of Nedspice Vietnam, as part of the joint program, 540 households in Binh Phuoc province were awarded Rainforest Alliance (RA) certificates and participated in the sustainable pepper plant club, with consumption guaranteed by Nedspice.

It is expected that Nedspice will increase the number of farmers in cooperatives to 2,000 by 2020, with consumption at 3,000 tons, expand franchising channels to cater to output from farmers in the program, and develop partnerships. It will be more profitable for farmers to participate in the production chain with products bearing clear traceability and quality. This is also a condition for farmers to enhance their ability and improve their productivity.

Nedspice Group is a privately-owned group of companies with activities in the processing of spices, herbs, and dehydrated vegetables. The group is headquartered in the Netherlands and operates processing factories in India, Vietnam and the Netherlands. Distribution facilities are located in the Netherlands, the UK, South Africa, and the US.

The group annually delivers around 15,000 tons of spices, herbs, and dehydrated vegetables to a range of global customers.
