The Binh Thuan Solar Power Investment JSC began construction of the Song Luy 1 solar power plant on September 23 with total investment of nearly VND1 trillion ($42.9 million).

The project has been approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, with a capacity of 39 MW on 45.5 ha in Song Luy commune, Bac Binh district, south-central Binh Thuan province.

Binh Thuan has now approved 14 solar projects with total investment of VND20.7 trillion ($888 million). According to the plan, by 2030 it is to have attracted investment in solar power projects with a total capacity of over 4,000 MW.

Mr. Tran The Thanh, Chairman of Binh Thuan Solar Power Investment, said the province has a typical monsoon climate with high sunshine and radiation. “Total annual actual radiation is about 1,961 kWh per sq m, and the daily average about 5.35 kWh per sq m,” he added. “Climatic conditions are favorable because of the low impact of wind and storms, so it’s an ideal condition for the construction of solar power plants.”

This is the second solar power project in Binh Thuan where construction is now underway and a milestone in its new energy development program.

Song Luy 1 will have nearly 130,000 solar panels with a capacity of 365 Wp, using modern technology from Mono Perc with the efficiency of photovoltaic cells being up to 21.3 per cent, reducing the area of land used. The plant is expected to be completed and put into operation in April 2019 and have a power output of 80 million kWh per year.

The investor selected a world-leading solar energy partner in the design, supply, installation and operation of the plant.

Consultancy came from Sigma Energy from Spain, Power Consultant 4 from Vietnam, Tractebel from Belgium, ABB from Sweden, and TMEIC from Japan.
