Plans afoot to extend economic zone's area to 106,000 ha.
The Nghi Son Economic Zone area in northern Thanh Hoa province will be expanded to a total area 106,000 ha under a decision from Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, including 66,497 ha of mainland and islands and 39,502 ha of water surface.
According to its Management Board, the expansion and adjusted planning for industrial zones marks a new development and fresh opportunities in the industrialization and modernization process and socioeconomic development of the province.
The government aims to transform the Nghi Son Economic Zone into a developed multi-branch and multi-sector economic zone associated with the efficient exploitation of deep sea ports, focusing on the petrochemical industry and basic industries such as high-quality steel and rolling, mechanical engineering, shipbuilding and repair, and electrical power.
The Board will compile the general planning and detailed planning for functional areas for submission to the Prime Minister for approval in 2016.
The Nghi Son Economic Zone was established in mid-2006 and is located some 200 km south of Hanoi. It has attracted 138 investment projects to date, with total registered investment of over $16 billion.
