Association to support enterprises and individuals involved in macadamia growing as well as research into the crop.
The Vietnam Macadamia Association, co-founded by LienVietPostBank and the Him Lam Joint Stock Company, has been officially established in the central highlands province of Lam Dong.
Established under Decision No. 124/QD-BNV from the Ministry of Home Affairs the association will be known as Macca Vietnam (VMA).
VMA is a social and professional organization, representing enterprises, economic organizations, individuals doing business in macadamias, and those conducting research into macadamias.
In its first meeting the association listed its tasks over subsequent years as contributing to creating a modern macadamia industry to gain more value in the value chain and attracting more capital and human resources to the industry.
The association will also expand macadamia planting areas and markets, contributing to crop restructuring in the central highlands and the northwest of the country.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, by 2020 the total macadamia area in the central highlands and the northwest will be 9,940 ha, with 12 processing facilities.
By 2030 the country is expected to have 34,500 ha of macadamia trees, including 7,000 ha of focused growing and 27,500 ha of intercropping. The northwest will have 4,800 ha of focused growing and 3,250 ha of intercropping, while the central highlands will have 2,200 ha and 24,500 ha. The two areas will have a total of 30 processing facilities by 2030, including 20 in the central highlands and ten in the northwest.
