Construction begins on April 29 under BOT mode.
Vingroup and the Kien Giang Provincial Department of Transport officially began construction of the Phu Quoc International Passenger Port on April 29.
This is the first passenger port of international standard in Vietnam and will be built in Duong Dong town on an area of approximately 180 hectares and be able to berth vessels carrying 5,000 to 6,000 passengers with a gross tonnage of 225,000.
The Phu Quoc Investment and Development Joint Stock Company is the main investor and has investment capital of VND493 billion ($22.9 million), equal to 30 per cent of the project’s total investment under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) mode.
“The port will become a key project to drive the overall development of Phu Quoc Island becoming a special economic zone,” Department Director Nguyen Van Dung said. “It will also be able to berth cargo vessels and military vessels, which will boost local socio-economic development and ensure national defense and security.”
