Course to be added to government planning for golf course development to 2020.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has agreed to include a 36-hole golf course project on Vu Yen Island in Hai Phong to the country’s golf course planning to 2020, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).
The PM requested that the Hai Phong People’s Committee implement the project according to relevant laws and guarantee construction proceeds on schedule.
According to the MoIT proposal, the course will be built within an area totaling 1.6 million sq m in Dong Hai ward, Hai An district. It forms part of Vu Yen Island Ecotourism Urban Area complex and will have total investment capital of $1 billion from Vingroup, with construction expected to be completed in 2019.
The Hai Phong People’s Committee had sought to add the 36-hole golf course and another 18-hole golf course located elsewhere to the golf course planning to 2020, but only the Vu Yen Island course gained approval.
Hai Phong has attracted a lot of investors in recent years. The northern port city currently has 425 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with registered capital totaling $10.293 billion, including projects of leading global names such as LG, Bridgestone, and Fuji Xerox.
