South Korea’s Samsung SDS and Vietnamese partner CMC Corporation signed a strategic cooperation agreement on June 25 on implementing a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for manufacturers in Vietnam.

Used in hundreds of manufacturing facilities all over the word, MES has been proven to bring many benefits, helping to customize manufacturing for greater efficiency, putting industry-proven experience to work, upgrading systems with a hot swap involving no downtime, and boosting manufacturers’ quality with advanced analytics.

Investing in smart factories is among the latest trends around the world due to its benefits for enterprises and the economy. A report from the Capgegini Digital Transformation Institute estimated that smart factories could add between $500 billion and $1.5 trillion in value added to the global economy in the next five years. Manufacturers also predict overall efficiency to grow annually during that time and be seven-fold than growth since 1990.

According to Mr. Won-Pyo Hong, President of Samsung SDS, in Japan, South Korea and other countries, most Internet of Things (IoT) innovations were adopted by State-owned enterprises and others at an early stage and more and more manufacturers are now adopting such innovations. “I believe a similar thing will happen in Vietnam,” he said.

Vietnam’s economy has witnessed robust growth in recent years with high investment flows from both foreign and domestic investors. Its manufacturers and enterprises therefore have significant demand for higher-efficiency solutions like MES, according to Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh, Chairman and General Director of the CMC Corporation.

“I believe that this cooperation will create opportunities for both sides,” he said. CMC has a good solution to offer customers in Vietnam, not only Samsung SDS’s customers, and Samsung SDS now has a trusted partner to deliver and deploy the solution in the country.

Samsung SDS was founded in 1985 as the ICT arm of the Samsung Group. With operations in 30 countries, its solutions utilize advanced analytics platforms, AI, and blockchain technologies to serve a diverse range of industries, including financial services, smart manufacturing, global logistics, and retail.

The CMC Corporation is the second-largest IT and telecommunications corporation in Vietnam. After 25 years in business, it has 12 member companies, joint ventures, and research institutes. In fiscal year 2017 it recorded consolidated revenue of VND5.343 trillion ($233.4 million) and pre-tax profit of VND255.5 billion ($11.2 million).
