The newly-licensed AEON Binh Tan shopping mall will provide everything customers need and play an important role in Ho Chi Minh City's economic development.
On June 21 the AEON Binh Tan shopping mall received an investment certificate from Mr Le Hoang Quan, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee. The new shopping mall will have total investment capital of $128.5 million and cover 4.6 hectares at the Hoa Lam - Shangri-La Hi-Tech Healthcare Park in Binh Tan district, Ho Chi Minh City. Incorporated in Vietnam, the Hoa Lam - Shangri La Healthcare LLC (Hoa Lam - Shangri-La) is a joint venture established on May 29, 2008 between the Hoa Lam Services Co. Ltd from Vietnam and the Shangri-La Healthcare Investment Pte. Ltd from Singapore to invest, construct and operate the International Hi-Tech Healthcare Park as well as introduce advanced healthcare and medical technology and operational experience for the development of Vietnam’s healthcare sector.
According to Mr Yasuo Nishitohge, General Director of AEON Vietnam, AEON Binh Tan’s development follows on from the success of AEON Tan Phu Celadon. The project is also one of 20 shopping mall developments it plans in Vietnam. “This confirms our confidence in Vietnam’s business environment,” he said. “AEON Binh Tan will contribute to Vietnam’s economic development in general and to Ho Chi Minh City’s in particular.” AEON Binh Tan will be larger than AEON Tan Phu Celadon and will provide customers with international quality products and create many jobs.
AEON is now one of the largest retail groups in the world, with over 179 member companies both inside and outside of Japan. Founded in 1758, the AEON Group’s 250-year history is one of the longest for a retailer in Japan. The Group has continued its commitment to putting the “Customer First” during its operations, with its fundamental principles being the pursuit of a prosperous and stable society through its retail business. Under this corporate accountability, the AEON Group has won customer trust and expanded its businesses not only within Japan but also in other countries in Asia over a long period of time.
AEON has been present in Vietnam since 2009, initially as a Representative Office, from December 1, 2009 to July 10, 2012. Then, on October 7, 2011, with approval from the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, AEON set up a Vietnamese company to invest in the construction, organisation, management and trade of modern shopping malls, general merchandise stores (GMS), and supermarkets as its core business and to carry out other business activities linked with imports, exports, trade, and research.
In January this year AEON opened its first property in Vietnam, in the 82-hectare Celadon City residential complex. Aeon Mall Tan Phu Celadon covers some 50,000 square metres for retail, with half for commercial areas and the remainder for lease with some 250 stands. The three-story building is seen as a one-stop shopping mall with five major sections that can cater to all the needs of shoppers as it stocks some 12,000 essential daily items.
With its location at Hoa Lam - Shangri- La, the Aeon Binh Tan shopping mall is strategically placed to develop in a sustainable manner over the long term.
The Hoa Lam - Shangrila Hi-Tech Healthcare Park covers 40 hectares. Located in Binh Tan District, just 10 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City's CBD, the Park is easily accessible via Vo Van Kiet Boulevard and National Highway 1A.
