Taiwan Excellence, an international campaign co-organized by Taiwan’s Bureau of Foreign Trade and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), had a presence at the recent water trade event, VIETWATER, for the second year in succession. Thirteen leading brands in Taiwan’s water industry exhibited smart technology-based, autonomous, and user and environmentally-friendly products at the expo held last week at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City.

Many international breakthrough technologies come from Taiwan. Silicon chips brought Taiwan a whole new level of prosperity, and now, every business and industry are developing on the basis of the next information technology revolution - an intelligent, digitalized and connected world and the Internet of Things (IoT). With a robust IT platform, since 2017 Taiwan has planned a multimillion-dollar wastewater reclamation initiative, which is expected to provide 10 per cent of water resources by 2030.

“Just like what is happening in Taiwan, Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, is encountering a water industry crisis, which is considered the most severe in the world due to the influence of industrialization, modernization, population growth, and environmental pollution,” said Mr. Keven Cheng, Director of the Taiwan Trade Center in Ho Chi Minh City.

“In that context, there is growing demand for products that are integrated with water supply and drainage systems, water filtration, and wastewater treatment technologies, etc. Understanding this, Taiwan Excellence strives to bring breakthrough technologies that have been successfully utilized in Taiwan to Vietnamese consumers and businesses through various events.”

At the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion, visitors had the opportunity to access a wide range of products in the water industry, from home appliances and specialized equipment to enterprise equipment.

Within the framework of the event, senior representatives from five Taiwanese brands - Ever-Clear, Yuan Chang Tsay Industry, Ketech, EMS, and FENRI - presented emerging trends in the water industry in both the global and Taiwanese contexts at the Taiwan Excellence Seminar, entitled “Innovation in the Shape of Water: Towards a Sustainable Future”.

In recent years, both Vietnam and Taiwan have had to face a water quality crisis. Although the two sides share many similarities and have increased investment in the drinking water and wastewater treatment industry, the latter is empowered by strong technology platforms developed on the basis of IoT.

Considered the main engine behind the growth of the world’s 15th and Asia’s fourth-largest economy, technology also enhances Taiwan’s leading position in the water industry, with export value of pumps, valves, pipes, water filters, and measuring and control equipment reaching $2 billion annually. Hence, insights on emerging technologies from Taiwanese water sector experts promised to bring useful and valuable information to businesses at the seminar.

Also joining Taiwan Excellence at VIETWATER 2018 were two Taiwanese representatives - Taiwan Pavilion and the Global Government Procurement Project (GPA). Bringing total water solutions for one of the ten emerging industries, as classified by Taiwan, their focus for this year’s event were water quality improvement, waste water treatment, and sewage treatment.
