Introduced in Vietnam during the Thailand MICE Roadshow 2019 held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City last week, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB)’s new support schemes encourage the business sector in Vietnam to tap into the growing opportunities from Thailand’s economic development landscape.

To strengthen mutual business ties and partnerships through MICE, TCEB has launched two support schemes to promote meeting and incentive travel as well as exhibition visits in Thailand. Strategically designed under TCEB’s 2019 branding campaign, “Thailand: Redefine Your Business Events”, the schemes provide ease of travel, convenience, and excellent return-on-investment for corporate and incentive travelers, travel agents and Business Mission Organizers (BMO) in Vietnam.

Ms. Nichapa Yoswee, Senior Vice President of Thailand TCEB - Business, said the Thailand Roadshow 2019 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City this year underlines the bureau’s strong commitment to strengthening partnerships with MICE sectors in Vietnam.

“Working towards the goal of growing the MICE business in the region, TCEB continues to carry out its key roles as co-creator, partner, collaborator and thought-leader in ensuring success, business experience, and maximizing benefits for members of regional MICE industry through Thailand’s growing opportunities deriving from Thailand 4.0 and major developments in many areas including investment and infrastructure,” she said.

Vietnam is a growing MICE market source for Thailand. In 2018, MICE travelers from Vietnam to Thailand grew at a remarkable 109 per cent to 55,306, making it one of Thailand’s top growing markets. In terms of its economy, Vietnam’s economic growth is projected at 7 per cent in 2019.

Meanwhile, Thailand is a growing business destination, being a central platform of exhibition in ASEAN, according to the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), and the region’s top-notch destination for meeting and incentive travel (MI) with the highest growth rate in overseas MI travelers (35.9 per cent) in 14 years in 2018.

The development of Thailand’s business landscape has been catering to the country’s MICE markets. The Thailand 4.0 policy, with the designation of ten key industries as a new engine of economic growth, has generated greater potential for business opportunities, new products, new technologies, and new services for business travelers from Vietnam to tap into. Food and agribusiness, health and wellness, and engineering and automotive are among the highlight sectors that attracted high numbers of overseas trade visitors and exhibitors to exhibitions in Thailand in 2018.

“Considered a good match between the two countries, Thailand can be a destination that can fulfil and meet the expectations of Vietnamese business/corporate travelers,” Ms. Nichapa said. “And to help fulfil these, TCEB as a government agency being a partner for business success has designed new support schemes for MI travels and exhibition visits in Thailand, which Vietnam’s business sector can maximize to generate a return on investment if they make a business visit in Thailand.”
